Caching at night in Dallas for Christmas

We started this habit of going geocaching at night on Christmas. This has resulted in some very interesting times (like these when I swear that last night cache was going to make one of us pee our pants).

This year, Fred requested a night cache, so I searched for one that I hadn't found and came across White Rock Night Cache, which I have to admit was a huge let down. It was short and easy and just...a let down.

So, we decided to try for a nearby cache and see what else we could do. This one has a fun name (Ice, Ice Baby) and it was a little harder to find once at the spot, but it was really a PNG in disguise.

So, we called this a night and played Rockband instead.

Caching while visiting the Bourbon Trail

We all decided that we'd take a weekend trip to Cincinnati and then drive down the Bourbon Trail (which meant I was the designated driver on this trip). This was also great for me as I got to find a cache in Ohio (my first and only!). We also got another cache in Kentucky. This was a great time - highly recommend spending more time in Cincinnati, because we missed so much we wanted to do.

Quick find on a trip to Boston

Given that not even all of my trips resulted in finding geocaches, writing these blogs has reminded me of some trips in 2015 that had completely slipped my mind (like this one). Just a quick find on a very quick trip: Boston Skyline.

Another find after dinner with friends

We had another event for Dallas Restaurant Week and my same new geocaching buddy and I were both there. And, talk of course turned to this a bit, but this time we were about 200 feet from a geocache. So, right after dinner, with our friends looking bewildered, we walking away and found this and came back.

Quick find after dinner

A large group of our friends had gotten together for dinner during the Dallas Restaurant Week event, and I was seated next to someone I don't see all that often. Turns out, she is also a geocacher, so we got to talking about this. And, of course, pulled up the app and found there was a cache not all that far from us. So, when we were done, we left our friends (who kept asking what we were talking about) and found Shawnee Trail (which happens to be my fave type of cache - cemetery!).

More caching in Ireland

Evan's family and I went to Ireland for a week and spent some time in Limerick and Belfast. Mainly, we were very touristy and went to musuems, took driving tours, went to some castles, crossed a very old rope bridge, went to the Giant's Causeway (still my favorite place I've ever been) and generally fun tourist things.

We also took the time to find a geocache while we were there: Merrion Square.

A quick find before paddle boarding in Mississippi

My geocaching co-worker and I were sent out together for another presentation, and since we both got in early, we decided to have a fun night before and go paddle boarding. While waiting, we decided to find a geocache and were able (with some climbing) to find A great place to get married. Then we went paddle boarding, and I only fell in once (right at the beginning).

Halfway around the world caches

Evan and I took a trip to visit family who (at the time) was living in Indonesia. We had a stop over in Hong Kong, as well, and spent a few days there.

In Hong Kong, it was really hard to get an opportunity to find a cache. There were always muggles everywhere. We did finally find a chance to grab Hanging Out with the Stars. This ended up being a cool place, because as it got darker, a laser light show started and this spot had a great view. We did go a few places and tried new things (including a dumpling with gold leaf).

In Indonesia, we stayed in Bali in a house with two of my aunts, one uncle, two cousins, and a friend. It was a fun group and we got to do quite a few things. Finding a cache here was much harder, as there weren't any within easy walking distance of the house and we couldn't just drive somewhere. However, there was a scooter so we got a chance to find Pura Gate Cash.

Caching with our cruise friends

While on our cruise last December, Lesley and I made some new friends and we all decided to go glamping together. Mainly, we played games and talked, and it was a great time. It was also quite a bit scary at times - this was during all the flooding in North Texas, and we stayed in a floating cabin, and the lake rose 18 inches the first night we stayed. Of course, we didn't let the rain stop us from trying to find a few caches - and succeeding.
So, if you know anything about this area of Oklahoma, the ground is a lot of red dirt and clay and VERY SLIPPERY WHEN WET. We were laughing so hard the whole time, especially when I got the fun of sliding down a hill. The shirt is permanently stained from the mud.

Caching in New York City

A co-worker and I had a trip to NYC, and turns out she is also a geocacher! So, of course, on the way back to the hotel after dinner, we found a couple of caches. So hard - muggles everywhere!

Walking around and caching in the Texas capital

We decided to head out of town with our buds and visit the state capital for the weekend. Mainly we just hung out and walked around, but we also found a few caches whiles meandering.

If you are ever in Austin and in search of historical finds, I recommend these two:
We also had a long wait for breakfast one day, so found this puzzle cache to keep us busy.

Finding caches in a whole lot of states around DC

The company I work for was acquired by a company based in DC, so I had a trip up to meet with my new boss. I decided to go up a few days early since (somehow) I'd never been to DC before, and my husband came along. We went to a few museums and saw the monuments, but we also took the opportunity to find geocaches in pretty much every state it was easy to drive to. This was really nice, seeing as if we'd done this much driving in Texas we'd still have been in Texas, so it was really fun for us.

Oh, yeah - and I punched Justin Bieber.

Caching before a flight

The hubby drove me to the airport for yet another work trip, and we were a little early, so we made a quick job of a geocache near the airport: King of LUV.

Finding some caches with the hubby with rain

Once again, the hubby and I set out to fin some caches. We found six in all, and for the most part these weren't that difficult. We did come across one in the wrong location and put it where it belonged (or where we guessed it belonged), and we came across my favorite type of cache - a cemetery cache! I gave this one a favorite for the day: Bethel Cemetery.

Travelling to the UK on my birthday

I had a work trip to do a presentation at the office in the UK, and while I was there I got to meet up with the person I found my first cache ever with. She, her husband, and I walked all around in the freezing cold so they could show me the area and we could grab a few caches before getting dessert and coffee. I got a lot of history about the area and three caches in all. Sadly, all are now inactive (but well after I and many others found them).

This cache had a LOT of cats

The hubby and I were headed back from the gym and I got the urge to check for nearby caches. We stopped at this one and waited out a muggle, then after they left we saw what that muggle was doing. There were probably 20 open cans of cat food and at least (at this point) 10 cats eating from them. In a parking lot. Anyways, we made the grab and got out of there.

Rehasing of 2014 goals and setting of 2015 goals

Well, not so bad this year for the goals. Not 100%, but since I also found caches in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, UK, Ulster, Grand Cayman, and Mexico, I'm cutting myself some slack on the fifth state.

Get to 600 finds:
105%

Find caches in 5 states:
80%

With this in mind, I only have one goal for 2015: fill out my Finds for Each Day of the Year chart. We shall see how this goes, but so far I think I can do it. Below is how I'm starting off the year; I'll keep it up-to-date on its own page.

Finds for Each Day of the Year

You've found caches on 139 of 366 days of the year.
